WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT

When is it the right time for something? I am a big believer of things will happen when the time is right and this has impacted me in different aspects of my life, from my professional career, my beauty world and my personal life.

There have been times in my life where I have felt completely burnt out which as a result led to a downward spiral of anxiety and fatigue. The profession I am in can do this sometimes (a lot of the times!) and I was always left thinking that I am not doing enough! My mind was telling me to keep going, “what you’re doing is not enough” and my body would be telling me the complete opposite “SLOW DOWN”.

The only way I listened was when my body pulled the plug on me, and I had a full blown panic attack, on a country road,  in the middle of nowhere, on my own and an ambulance on its way to me!!! That was it for me, I resigned from my job and a load was lifted from my shoulders. I knew it was the right time and the right decision. This is not to say that I’m a quitter but at that time in my life it was the best decision I could have made for myself.

Looking back, I don’t think I could go back to a role that demanded so much of me that I would go on to neglect my self-care, something that has become a huge part of my routine in the last year. This did not happen immediately but I gradually began to incorporate a self-care routine within my lifestyle. Self-care can mean different things to different people and as long it is helping you in a positive way it can be whatever allows you to relax and wind-down or the complete opposite of that.

My mind is always racing at a thousand thoughts a minute and before I can even act on a single one of those thoughts, I am flooded with the next thousand. Because of this, I tend to like self-care activities such as exercise, yoga, listening to meditation music, cleaning and cooking, all of which help me to stay grounded.

I want to accomplish a lot of things in life and I have made many goals but things will only go my way when the time is right and I am ok with that. Rushing something and getting to it when you’re half ready will only get you half the results. Your greatest competition should be yourself and no one else, and when you believe that you will believe that things will only fall into place for you when it is your time!

I hope for those of you who have been through similar experiences have found reading this useful. There is always light at the end of the tunnel – even when you can’t see it. Whatever our passions, ambitions and goals may be in life – never put them before your health. I learnt the hard way, but the important factor is that I learnt and now I am working again as a Senior Clinical Research Associate in a contractor role to the hours I prefer and so allowing me to spend the extra time on my self care activities, and of course, why we’re here today, on my makeup business.

Food for thought:

Your biggest competition is you, if you outdo yourself every time, the only one winning is YOU!
